Our Story
To understand the ethos of Enga Coffee, one must understand the magic of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. A place where people are the heartbeat of the land. There is a connection to the land, and a deep reverence for family. Once you feel this, you can never forget it.
My father, the late-Takura, was born into a tribe just out of Kompiam, in the Enga Province. His father died before he was born and he was raised by his uncles. Most of the population of PNG live in rural areas and rely on subsistence farming – growing what they live off. Takura’s uncles gave what little savings they had to put him through school. He was a good student and later earned a scholarship to study Medicine and became a doctor. He was the first person from the region to do this.
Takura always gave back to his country and people. He never forgot where he came from and instilled this in his children. Enga Coffee was established with the goal of giving small family plantations a better price for their coffee. In 2011, Takura passed away but his impact is still felt. We look forward to sharing more about the families and communities who have been supported by this venture on our website and social media pages. Until then, enjoy that sip of aromatic delight. May it make you feel closer to the Highlands of PNG.
